Treasures from the sea

Miramar Zeemuseum was founded in 1956 by miss Jeanne Warners in her then hometown of Oosterbeek (Gelderland). Fascinated by the sea and its treasures, she brought back cabin trunks filled to the brim with shells and sea creatures from each of her trips to fill her museum.

Since 1966, Miramar Zeemuseum is based in Vledder (municipality of Westerveld, Drenthe). It is the only natural history museum in Drenthe. The museum tells the founder’s story through the shells, sea creatures and other objects she collected from all over the world. The museum has great cultural and natural historical value due to the remarkable story and unique collection of miss Jeanne Warners.

Miramar Zeemuseum is a registered museum and is a member of the Dutch Museum Association. The museum is also ANBI registered since 1 January 2008.

De Schatkamers van Zuidwest-Drenthe

Since 2019, Miramar Zeemuseum forms the collective ‘Schatkamers van Zuidwest-Drenthe’ with Museum Valse Kunst (Vledder) and OERmuseum (Diever). Together, as small museums in the same area, we support each other and try to become more widely known. We would like to preserve this piece of culture and history in Drenthe.
